| The National Park Service has built a wooden boardwalk through the Salt Creek area to help protect the fragile habitat. Salicornia sp. (pickleweed) thrives in areas where briney groundwater is near the surface (USDA, [2010g]). Many kinds of seed-eating birds relish the pickleweed's seeds which are produced in great abundance in the winter. |
