City of Rocks National Reserve
This view of part of Green Mountain near the Circle Creek Overlook shows examples of the younger, light-colored granite where it intrudes into the older dark colored granite. Intrusive dikes are visible in the upper center of the image. City of Rocks National Reserve is also known for its unique vegetation which includes pinyon pine and juniper forests at the northern end of their range (Miller and Wigand, 1994).
