This view is looking south from the hilltop above the Mariscal Mine in southern Big Bend. Hogbacks and cuestas (steeply to gently strata of Cretaceous age) form linear hills and ridges along the western flank of Mariscal Mountain. Mariscal Mountain is a great plunging anticline that formed during the Laramide Orogeny (Maxwell, 1968). |
