Badlands National Park
This view is along a wilderness access trail near the Roberts Prairie Dog Town along the Sage Rim Road.  Bright-colored buttes in this area gave rise to the name Yellow Mounds, an old term used to identify the brightly colored beds of the upper Fox Hills Formation. A trace of gray mudstone the basal Chadron Formation caps each of the small yellow mounds.
