Badlands National Park
Deer grazing on grasslands below the pinnacles Castle Trail area in the Big Badlands part of eastern Badlands National Park. The badlands in this area are eroding from the Chadron and Brule Formations. The mostly gray mudstone beds of the lower slope are Chadron Formation (Eocene age) and the upper part consists of the lighter colored Brule Formation (Oligocene age).
