Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Location Map The Davis Dam and Powerplant facility are located in Pyramid Canyon, 67 miles downstream from Hoover Dam. The site is within Lake Mead National Recreation Area and located approximately 2 miles upstream from Laughlin, Nevada and Bullhead City, Arizona. The Davis Dam Project was authorized by Congress on April 26, 1941, and construction overseen by the Bureau of Reclamation began the next year, but was halted during WWII. Construction resumed in 1946, and the dam and powerplant were completed in 1953.

Davis Dam is an earth and rock-fill embankment with a concrete spillway, gravity structure, intake structure and powerplant that generates 1 to 2 billion kilowatt-hours annually. Davis Dam is to re-regulate Hoover Dam releases to meet downstream demands, including the annual delivery of 1.5 million acre-feet of water to Mexico.
