Basalt xenolith in granite at Lost Palms Oasis
A basalt xenolith imbedded in granodiorite in the Lost Palms Oasis area. The basalt xenolith is probably a piece of the roof rock that the igneous pluton migrated upward into as it formed in Mesozoic time. Basalt xenoliths are common in granitic intrusions throughout the park.
