Upper Painted Canyon
A trail system leads from Painted Canyon to upland areas that provided vistas of the entire Mecca Hills region. This view is looking east from a high point into the headwater portion of Painted Canyon. The dark rocks at the base of the gorge are Precambrian-age metamorphic and granitic rocks unconformably overlain by sediments of Late Tertiary and Quaternary age.
