This zoomed-in view shows Bright Angel Canyon in afternoon shadows as seen from the South Rim in the vicinity of Grand Canyon Village. Dark metamorphic rocks (schist and gneiss) crop out in the inner gorge in the vicinity of Phantom Ranch along the Colorado River at the mouth of Bright Angel Canyon (see Billingsley, 2000).
