Rhyolite (ghost town), Nevada
Rhyolite is a ghost town that once served the community serving the Bullfrog Gold Mining District. Construction in the town site began in 1906 near one of the most promising mines, the Montgomery Shoshone mine. The town quickly grew to about 500 residents. A downturn in the economy in 1907 lead to the collapse in area mining investments, and the mines closed down in 1911, and by 1916 the last lights went out in town (Feller, [2010]). Rhyolite is located just off Highway 374 about 3 miles west of Beatty Nevada and about two miles east of the one-way Titus Canyon Road.
