Gower Gulch
This view is looking down the incised channel in the Gowen Gulch fan (below the mouth of the canyon. The Death Valley salt pan (Devil's Golf Course) and Panamint Range are in the distance. The gray gravel of the active wash is in contrast with the older buff- or brown-colored sediments of the older alluvial fan surface. The change in color reflects the recent change in sediment supply created by a man-made diversion in 1941 of the channel of Furnace Creek Wash into the headwaters area of Gower Gulch (Sharp and Glazner, 1997).
