The seawall along Highway 1 at Half Moon Bay at El Granada. Seawall and groin construction to protect the harbor has change wave diffraction patterns in the bay that has resulted in severe beach erosion along the bay.
Looking west along the harbor groin toward the headlands at Pillar Point. Pillar Point is a raised marine terrace on the west side of the San Gregorio Fault where it comes onshore at Half Moon Bay.
Soft sandstone cliffs along the coast north of Half Moon Bay are constantly threatened by coastal erosion, particularly during heavy winter storms.
